The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) is the leading standards body responsible for the training and education of specialists and GP obstetricians in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia and New Zealand. 

RANZCOG is committed to the establishment and maintenance of the highest possible standards of practice in women's health and provides programs in training, accreditation and continuing professional development (CPD) that are responsive to the evolving health care needs of women. 

RANZCOG supports research into women's health and act as an advocate for women's healthcare by forging productive relationships with individuals, the community and professional organisations, both locally and internationally.

Job Description

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity

The Governance and Legal (G&L) Team is a small, collaborative team that supports strong governance across the College. The team works closely with internal leaders and external stakeholders to maintain effective governance frameworks, policies, and committee processes that enable the College’s purpose and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy and Framework Development - Drafting, reviewing, and maintaining organisational policies, procedures, and governance frameworks. Ensuring alignment with legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Governance Oversight - Ensuring RANZCOG Governance bodies operate within their terms of reference and charters. Maintaining the register of Terms of Reference of all RANZCOG Committees.
  • Election management - Coordinating and overseeing organisational elections, ensuring compliance with election policies and transparency in processes.
  • Corporate Reporting - Preparing governance-related reports for external stakeholders such as ASIC an ACNC. Supporting annual reporting and statutory disclosures.
  • Governance Advice and Support - Providing guidance to business units on governance matters.
  • Committee Coordination – Assist with coordinating committees managed by the Governance and Legal Team, which involves assessment of conflict of interest, compiling extensive documentation, and report writing that contains legal and regulatory considerations in relation to the:
    • Progression Review Panel; and
    • Membership Review Panel

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable knowledge in Australian and New Zealand legal, regulatory and legislation.
  • With previous experience in providing guidance, supervision or mentoring to colleagues, desirable.
  • Ability to use initiative and foresight to ensure effective delivery of areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and initiative to manage competing priorities and contribute to high‑quality governance outcomes.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, particularly with respect to accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise and communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, individuals and groups.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and a proven ability in policy writing.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, including the ability to plan workload, manage competing priorities and use initiative and foresight to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience and/or an interest in and commitment to issues concerning women's health and familiarity with a health-related service/workplace and health-related workforce and policy issues.
