About the College:
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) is the leading standards body responsible for the training and education of specialists and GP obstetricians in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia and New Zealand. 

RANZCOG is committed to the establishment and maintenance of the highest possible standards of practice in women's health and provides programs in training, accreditation and continuing professional development (CPD) that are responsive to the evolving health care needs of women. 

RANZCOG supports research into women's health and act as an advocate for women's healthcare by forging productive relationships with individuals, the community and professional organisations, both locally and internationally.

Job Description

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities:

The Executive Director, Women's Health and Advocacy is a key member of the RANZCOG Executive Leadership Team responsible for the provision of leadership, strategic advice and expertise to enable ongoing development and associated implementation of college initiatives relating to Advocacy, Communication, Women’s Health, First Nations Health and Global Health across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and Asia/Pacific region.

The key responsibilities of the role shall include, but not limited to:

  • Provide executive leadership to the Women's Health and Advocacy Directorate, including setting clear KPIs, capability development, and performance management.
  • Review and Implementation of the College's advocacy, communication, marketing, social media, podcast and publication strategies in alignment with RANZCOG’s Strategic Plan and objectives.
  • Lead evidence-based advocacy with governments, health departments and key stakeholders to influence policy and improve women's healthcare.
  • Ensure consistent, accurate and timely messaging that strengthens the College's reputation and supports strategic objectives.
  • Lead the College's response to reputational issues and provide strategic communications advice during sensitive or high-profile matters.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication strategies and oversee media responses.
  • Develop strategic engagement plans to strengthen relationships with members, governments, partners and the broader community.
  • Represent the College at key external meetings, forums and stakeholder events as delegated by the CEO.
  • Oversee the development, review, and dissemination of evidence-based clinical guidelines in key areas of women’s health, First Nations health and Global health.
  • Work collaboratively with the Dean of Policy and Research and Chair of Policy, Research and Guidelines Committee to progress development of evidence based clinical guidelines.
  • Oversee the development, accuracy and accessibility of patient information resources, including health information pamphlets and women’s health content.
  • Oversee and lead culturally safe, co-designed initiatives that improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clinicians, women, babies, families, and communities, in alignment with the College’s Reconciliation Action Plan and Government funded projects.
  • Oversee consumer engagement to support meaningful involvement of women, families, and community representatives in College activities and decision making.
  • Oversee the administration, financial planning and project management for activities, projects and programs conducted under the Global Health Unit and other College initiatives in Asia/Pacific region.
  • Collaborate with staff, Fellows, and external partners to support the ongoing development and delivery of core women’s health, research, and global health initiatives.
  • Oversee the coordination and governance of committees and project groups associated with the Women's Health and Advocacy Directorate.
  • Lead directorate planning and financial management, including annual budgets, expenditure oversight across cost centres, and monthly reporting/review.

This position involves work outside normal business hours and weekends beyond the 37.5 hours specified under contract. The position also requires interstate and international travel.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong strategic leadership and manage multiple disciplinary teams.
  • Extensive experience developing, implementing and managing advocacy, communications, health initiatives within the not-for-profit environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills; the ability to establish oneself as a change agent and source of thought leadership and expert advice.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills; the ability to write papers and reports targeted to a highly educated audience.
  • Sound financial management skills including budget preparation and management, business planning and risk management reporting.
  • Functional understanding of women’s health issues, related government policy (Australia and New Zealand) and the complex College environment.
  • Demonstrated high-level project management and evaluation skills, the ability to manage projects involving multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Working knowledge of current global and local trends in acute and public health.
  • Commitment to development of evidence-based outcomes and evaluation of health services.
  • Experience with design and implementation of business development strategy.
  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • An interest in and commitment to issues concerning women’s health and the ability to grasp complex issues in obstetrics and gynaecology.
