The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) is the leading standards body responsible for the training and education of specialists and GP obstetricians in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia and New Zealand.
RANZCOG is committed to the establishment and maintenance of the highest possible standards of practice in women's health and provides programs in training, accreditation and continuing professional development (CPD) that are responsive to the evolving health care needs of women.

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) is seeking an experienced and independent professional to join our Governance, Finance, Audit and Risk Management (GFARM) Committee.
This volunteer role provides a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise in finance and risk to an organisation committed to advancing women’s health, education, and professional excellence across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities:
The Independent Finance/Risk GFARM member will have the responsibility to:
- Provide independent oversight, advice, and assurance to the GFARM Committee on matters relating to financial management, audit, governance, and risk.
- Review and monitor the integrity of the organization’s financial statements, management reports, and external audit outcomes.
- Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal control, compliance, and risk management frameworks.
- Provide insights and recommendations on financial strategies and risk management.
- Participate in the review and analysis of financial reports and statements.
- Attend scheduled committee meetings, review papers in advance, and actively participate in discussions and decision-making.
- Maintain independence, confidentiality, and the highest standards of integrity and professional judgment in all matters relating to the Committee’s work.
Ko wai koe | About you - Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated professional experience in finance, accounting, audit, or risk management at a senior or governance level.
- Sound understanding of governance principles, financial reporting standards, and risk management frameworks.
- Ability to critically analyse complex financial and risk information and provide clear, evidence-based advice.
- Strong understanding of compliance and assurance processes, including internal and external audit.
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment, maintain confidentiality, and constructively challenge management where appropriate.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to contribute effectively as a committee member.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or membership of a professional body (e.g. CPA, CA, CFA, or equivalent) are desirable.
- Previous board or committee experience in governance, audit, or risk roles (particularly in the not-for-profit or public sector) is highly regarded.
- An interest in and commitment to issues concerning women's health.
Commitment and Meeting Details
- The GFARM Committee meets five times per year (approximately every two months). The successful candidate is required to be available, and attend all committee meetings as as needed.
- Meetings generally run for around two hours and are usually held during standard business hours. Meetings are scheduled well in advanced based on agreed times for committee members.
- Hybrid meeting format – members can attend sessions in person at RANZCOG House (Djeembana) in Melbourne or remotely via Zoom.
Remuneration
This is a voluntary position. The College will cover approved meeting-related expenses, such as travel or accommodation, in line with RANZCOG policy.
